The Shipping in Changing Climates project aims to inform the policy making process by developing new knowledge and understanding on the subject of the shipping system, its energy efficiency and emissions, and its transition to a low carbon, more resilient future.
A crucial issue currently facing the shipping industry is climate change and its mitigation. The impact of current mitigating strategies is estimated by some to be around a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions on business as usual by 2050, far from the reductions required if the industry was to be sustainable.
The outcome of Shipping in Changing Climates will be able to address important questions facing the shipping industry, such as; How will mandated regulations lead to changes in the fleet, in terms of operation and technology.
Shipping in Changing Climates invites presentations from policy developers, marine technologists, operators and industry. Although the conference is focused on the Shipping Industry, it also welcomes contributions from other transport sectors on related topics, including:
